Human faces only began to appear on coins about a hundred and 50 years later. Even alexander the great would stamp his coins with the picture of hercules, but hercules looked remarkably like him. So they were a means to let you know who was the god, who was the ruler, to spread propaganda. Andi, i don't see how that would have existed prior to coinage.
