Growth was surprisingly strong in the first half of the year, and the outgoing government has said that its relatively well placed to face the winter. But there are two sets of real challenges for whichever government is coming into power. And it's very difficult to see how any new government can tackle the cost of living crisis and keep the electorate happy without further debt. There's a big doubt about whether this rightwing administration will have the sheer capacity and talent to handle such an operation.
