The Concentric Warfare of the Castle

Dover Castle was used as a prison during the Spanish war of succession. The walls themselves are so strong, how many defenders would have been for a castle? Again, probably a garrison of around 100 to 150 men. For instance, it had such a wide overlapping field of fire that you defended that with just a handful of crossbowmen. And Dover is so unusual as both a palace and battlefield through our history.
