Is Father the Way He Is and Why Did He Pick Up These Kids?

The fourth age is when father and some of his pals rose up to overthrow the emperor. He's really awful to all these kids specifically but does he is he out in the world doing god stuff or is he just like hey what if i rounded up 12 people and put them in my murder library? There are also other gods who mean him harm oh and you don't spend much time with any of them so by design this does not have a lot of visibility.
