David Gergen: We are now in a moment where politics is defined by who you hate and who hates you back. And he's very comfortable in that in a way that not everybody is, so the moment has kind of benefited him deeply prior to 2016. It was very easy to dismiss him as a play actor, but he did garner a large amount of support from millions of voters. Now he still maintains real influence within the Republican party. He continues to deny the 2020 election results and encourages others to do the same.
