Karen Bass was projected to be the winner on Wednesday with around 53% of the vote. Rick Caruso had around 47%. Both Bass and Caruso are Democrats, but Caruso used to be a Republican and was widely seen as the conservative choice. But even despite those attack ads, Caruso got a lot of celebrity and even very progressive endorsements.
