I specifically use the description to do exactly what you said was to weed out specific people and to make it very clear what I was looking for. Other people's descriptions were probably the most helpful bit that helped me weed out others. When someone comes across a certain way in their description it does send a clear messageyou chose to write something specific here so if it's off putting in the description it's worth looking into whereas I feel like if there's no description I have no information now.
