What Is It Like to Be an Octopus?
The book is in so many ways about consciousness, even though you don't really use that word that much. There's a very famous essay by the philosopher thomas nagel which has one of the greatest titles in the history of academic essays - what is it like to be a batsi? You go further than that an and talk about maybe a more challenging eercise, which is to imagine what it would be like to be an octopus. So here we have a creature whose body and its brain is organized so differently to human. The idea that it would work stems from that ina idea of dualism, that the mind and body are separate but products of each other.
