Is This the Idiom of the Prophets?

Paul is writing to a group of people formed primarily around a synagogue who are Jews. There is a very strong sense that we are facing persecution from the Jewish authorities, but we are Jews. Then we lose that background when this becomes a text that's read in purely Gentile contexts. I wish Paul would have been a little bit more forward looking here in his letter to Thessalonians. Like it just, it just nettles me.
