Why Is Pride So Destructive?

In the 1940s, Lewis began to become very successful as a writer. He struggled to cope with fame and in effect felt temptations to pride. One of the reasons why Lewis seems to have taken on a spiritual director around this time. It seems to have been to help him coping with fame and stop himself becoming proud.
