The Importance of Balance in Art
There are three factors connected. If something is heavier on the bottom, is there a difference between balance between up and down versus left and right? That's also true if you have an orientation in your pictorial space that's similar to landscape. The next design factor is visual weight. In deciding which elements I'm emphasizing, we've chosen a hierarchy of importance. A hierarchy is the artist's decision as to what's really important in this design.
