How to Implement Fairness on a Spin Lock
In a more civilized country, you might imagine some kind of cue for the gas station bathroom. In general, we sacrifice some fairness in order to make locking operations as fast as possible. So it's actually sometimes fair bit more expensive to implement fairness on a lock. But usually this is desirable in locks that ar very high contention.
