Regression to the Mean
Regression to the Mean was discovered and named late in the 19th century by Sir Francis Galton, a half cousin of Charles Darwin. Regression effects can be found wherever we look, but we do not recognize them for what they are,. They hide in plain sight. It took Galton several years to work his way from his discovery of filial regression in size to the broader notion that regression inevitably occurs when the correlation between two measures is less than perfect.
