The Triumph of Carno
Only one of the tribunes dared speak against the motion, lazarre carno. Carno was careful to praise napoleon and his government but made a passionate case that democracy had only failed in the past because it was born during a time of anarchy. The motion passed the tribunate easily although, strangely, sources differ on the exact margin of victory. It must have been an son for some sad reflection on his role in bonaparte's rise to power. One senator would later explain, quote, the senate did nothing more than sanction measures which it had no means of opposing, even with the appearance of resistance. And i think that hits the nail on the head.
