In 2020, the National Republican Senatorial Committee released a 57-page memo instructing GOP candidates to address the COVID crisis by aggressively attacking China. And shortly thereafter, mainstream media published a bunch of op-eds written by Fintang people defending his use of the term. So these two things, the State Department Cable and GOP memo, they kind of pull back the curtain on their relationship between the US government and mainstream media.
