The Peacemaker of the Onondaga

The mohawk were the first tribe to take up the idea that all of the iroquoisans in this region should form some kind of unified alliance and peaceful coexistence. The peacemaker then returned back to onondaga territory, which is more or less right in the middle of what's now New York state. He consulted with a very powerful woman named gigon sasi, who was the keeper of the grain stores of the onondaga. She hosted a gathering of the ders from five different tribes around the region. All o these tribal leaders buried their weapons under the white pine. And shortly after, the great law of peace was proclaimed.
