In a place like Brazil, which is a lot poorer, if you look at the voting composition of the election, it looks very different than here. Lula wins more of the kind of people that we would think of as Trump winning sort of more rural, more poor than Bolsonaro does. So the dynamics of these figures in different countries actually change and that might have to do with levels of material wealth in them. The left just has two narrow definition of what self-interest should be," says Julian Zelizer.
