Schiller's Magical Idealism

Schiller was originally a great supporter of the French Revolution. Like so many other Germans becomes disillusioned with Robespierre's reign of terror. Schiller believes that the French were not mature enough, morally mature enough, to deal with the freedom that the French Revolution gave them. So for them, art and beauty is not something that's aesthetically pleasing and decorative and ornamental. It's something deeply political.
