The Importance of Being a Perfect Partner
The movie deliberately and quite effectively sidesteps that plot question of is she just there for him like a Blade Runner does or X Machina. Theodore's true character arc eventually is that he is basically having to learn to deal with actual other consciousnesses instead of just right reflections of what he wants to see in another person. Samantha kind of pulls this into the extremes by becoming this truly understandable phenomenon to Theodore at some extent.
