I was on the path to being a classical concert pianist but I also had other interests that were pulling me in different directions. We wrote music for McDonald's and Walmart and we created the blockbuster video jingle back in 1990. And then one day I got an email from a man in North Carolina who told me about this amazing tech company that he was starting that was going to change the world of music. This was my going rogue on academia. It was combining everything I had been doing up to that point.
