The medical profession rejected the idea that child sexual abuse was common, and that it had bad effects. The Vietnam Veterans RAP groups knew this stuff was real because they were living with it. They didn't go to academic institutions, they went to Washington, D.C., and lobbied extensively. You know, so that's how PTSD got in the diagnostic and statistical manual.
