The Impact on Families of Detainees
For families, it was more difficult for us to convince the families than the prisoners themselves. A lot of them wanted to only talk about their case and we were not interested in that legal part. So that was a bit of difficulty. With families, i think the major reason for the difficulty setting in was that they were extremely suspicious of people coming to talk to them. We've referre to that as ambiguous loss, where you don't quite know what the fate of that person is. And we also found that families did not have any space for actually mourning that loss,. ar to grieve, to feel everything that one would feel if a loved one were taken away.
