This year is the centennial of the Turkish Republic. Many people, including myself, many commentators, presented this election between two very different candidates as an existential contest. It's in that sense that many commentators believe that this was a decisive election in view of where the Republic was going to go. And also, one of the reasons why it was such a bitterly contested election.
