The Role of ADH in Central Diabetes Incipidus

Central diabetes incipidus is an important cause of hypernatremia in the pediatric ICU setting. It can actually be seen in primary brain lesions, traumatic brain injury, or even as a harbinger of brain death. Children in the intensive care setting typically present with the abrupt polyurea and free water diuresis. In our patient, we had central diabetesincipidus, most likely from the cranioferin gioma resection.
