Do Volunteers Disidentify as Tourists?
Fraticipants strongly and emphatically distance themselves from mass or package tourists. Every reference that participants made to the term tourist was negative, says author. Particments also occasionally turned this critique in on themselves, recalling times when they too had been just a tourist. But they did so to reinforce sense of deep engagement they now felt as a volunteer.
