Oculus Go v Unlocked Os - Is This Really a Good Idea?

John carmack has put out an unlocked o s for the oculus go v head set. This is the first one that's been discontinued now. And this unlocked o s gives you proper, full root access. It feels that this should be mandated by if you abandon a product, you should at least open it up so people can hack on it.
