The cause of death, according to Dr. Menzela, was low bar pneumonia. The murder trust got the entirely nonsuspicious natural causes finding that would let them collect single indemnity on the insurance. In 1895, Sir William Osler, the father of modern medicine, had proposed that drinking too much strongly predisposed patients to developing lowbar pneumonia. And when Pasqua picked up the death certificate later in the day, it did indeed list low bar pneumonia as the cause of death.
