Dan O'Brien: I think there's a point where, what do I want to say? People become academics for a lot of reasons. And then it turns out that job of an academic is actually to get up in front of people all the time and do intense amounts of like emotion work and cognitive work. There's also interpersonal work. But you're always toggling between that abstract and like they're really concrete. My buddy Bill James always is like, what's the cash value? Right. It's a nice kind of Americanism, right?
