The Importance of the Conscription Issue in American Foreign Policy

Nixon ran for election in 1968 promising the end of conscription right and then is it was Nixon who he didn't do it in his first term but then in January 1973 issued an executive order that ended conscription. The fear of domestic political disorder as manifested through the Vietnam War then constraining the ways in which American presidents think about their ability to use military power on land after Vietnam. Even when the US has moved to a professional army and ended conscription the mantra really I would say through to Iraq but Afghanistan actually really maybe it was no more body bags right.
