Rockmaninoff's Intermetso
There is a subtlety about Rockmaninoff's own piano playing that is often completely tossed out today in favor of extremes of emotion and pathos. This is now reflected in the music as well in the concerto. If you notice it, great. If not, then you might have deep down without even realizing it. The first movement had an ending, but it was unresolved. The second doesn't have an ending at all. And here we get our second clue that this is truly an intermetso, despite the length of the movement.
