Marie Niswander is a psychiatrist who spent time at Lexington rehab. She says the program didn't work for her, but it gave her an insight into addiction. When she was done with surgery, she wanted to probe the mind of addicts. The research lab there started experimenting with a powerful synthetic painkiller that would soon be known as Methadone.
