The Challenges of the Rocky Mountaineer

Rick Antenson was vice president at Rocky Mountaineer for three years in the early 1990s. He says engineering of this 150 years ago was quite a challenge and the Rockies are formidable barrier. Part of it was that they were working 12 months of the year which is great when you're in the summer, he says. But then all of a sudden it's winter and you're dealing with snow slides so they didn't have yet snow sheds so they could protect the rails.
