CNN's John Sutter talks about how to get the most out of a project. He says lead and lag measures can be used on large or small human focus projects. The idea is that if you're doing something, it will result in an outcome when you step on the scale at the end of the month. It could take up to 12 hours per day for someone to complete one task with no down time - but they'll do it eventually.
