What Are the Oppositions to the Draft?
Some African countries especially on the last day when the agreement was going to be finalized, the most notably Congo had some serious objections to the draft which they claim was sort of pushed through. The larger issue that was being also raised by countries like Congo is about finance. I mean, how do you actually talk about developed countries that have a larger footprint on biodiversity both in terms of its destruction and extraction? Are they responsible to actually put in much more funding so that developing economies and these developed nations can actually be compensated for or more money can be put in for conservation of biodiversity as well? So at one point it was seeming like that there will be no agreement because of this opposition which was subsequently dropped
