Is Crony Capitalism a Threat?

A crony is a long time friend or companion. Everybody needs friends, even though the word has acquired a negative ation recently. Crony capitalism can involve collusion between different business people to diminish competition and drive up prices for the public. Adam Smith concluded that although social meetings between business people are unavoidable, the government should do nothing to facilitate them.
