The Essence of Greek Education
We cannot understand the essential nature of greek education unless we look in the right light at the course of human evolution, going back to the greeks. Their civilization was really a continuation or offshoot of eastern civilization. Those who stood by the cradle of the civilization would have considered it completely ridiculous that people would sit and study books to pass examinations. What they practised was basically a kind of physical education. If it was in their destiny, they hoped to ottain the crown of human life through a cult of the body. This refined cal education involved a specific and vigorous system of regulating the breath.
