It raises a question in my mind, why do we have a republic at all if that's how politicians are going to behave? That is, why elect people to pass legislation when all they're doing is reflecting the popular will. The short answer there is that it's constitutionally required. And you know, look, our elected officials tend to specialize in giving us what we want.
