What It Means to Be a Scientist?
The process of science has changed in the last 100 years. One thing, i think, is that you have a lot more grass roots efforts to decide what kinds of large scale projects are going to get done. We can see a big shift, say, with american astronomy. There is a new set of rolls for people in terms of a more kind of political aspect to what it means to be a scientist. It's much more case that people need to move outside their labs and research stations if they want large scale efforts to proceed.
