How House Music Invented Electronic Dance Music
In the early 1980s, house music scenes were growing in Chicago and other cities in the US. With the success of songs from Vince Lawrence, Jesse Saunders and Frankie Knuckles, house music left the US and reached new heights in Europe. In 87, a number of British DJs went to Ibiza; they heard all these great Chicago house records. They bring it back to England, then by 88 it becomes a national craze. Today, Ultra Music Festival has come to define the electronic dance music scene for people in mainstream culture. We'll also talk about the Tiny Desk Contest and PR Music's annual search for the next great undiscovered musician to play a Tiny Desk concert.
