We Jews Are Carrying That Blessing
In the rabbinic period, they had a similar kind of statement, we have borne the burden. Jews don't typically talk about the law as a burden. So realize that when jesus tells this parable, he very intentionally drops that phrase in there. And it makes, it makes this parable very deliberately about jew and gentile. This isn't just about death bed conversions. It's not just about people that worked at nine a m and then noon and then three p m and then five p m. The five p m workers are, quite literally, gentiles, like fresh off the boat greco roman people wanting to worship the god of israel.
