The Importance of Continuity of Communication
I think the most important thing is to keep lines of communication open at as many levels as we possibly can. I was very glad to see William Burns the director of the CIA and one of our finest diplomats go off to meet with Sergei Nourishkin his counterpart head of the FSB in Ankara back in November. Those are the kinds of high level interactions that I think need to continue and and are very very important at this moment. At some point the two presidents may begin to place messages into the public square some of my colleagues Matthew Bonn at Harvard for example has been talking about perhaps a high level speech at some point.
