I think the notion of candor works better in the circumstance you described than, quote, honesty. Candor is a willingness to engage in a kind of structured or disciplined inquiry that has genuine consequence and that you fess up to that before anything ensues. And I learned that thank God in the death trade, you know, sitting beside people who are dying, there's not a lot of room to be an idiot. There's plenty of opportunity, but there's not much in the way of merit to frigging around and to obfuscating and to speak in half measures and to at least do no harm.
