Cohen's Involvement in the 2016 Election Campaign
Wall Street Journal began reporting in 2018 about reported payments made by Trump and his associates to two women. In the case of Daniels, Cohen himself actually paid Stormy Daniels $130,000. The goal here was essentially to prevent this information from about these alleged affairs from getting out into the public eye during the run up to the 2016 election. New DA Alvin Bragg seems to have decided that this case was worth bringing.
