Major edna adams was the first black woman to be commissioned by the us Army. She'd been valedictorian of her high school class and had gone on to graduate from wilberforce university with majors in mathematics, physics and latin along with a history minor and teacher certification. When she was chosen to command the six tripol te, she already had years of experience as an officer working at the wack training centere in fort de moine, iowa.
