The way in which human beings image God is visible, it can be seen and perceived. In the ancient Near East, images were used in reference to kings. King would set up his image at their borders on a pillar or storage jars that contained grain, wine and oil. This was more than an elaborate property of kind of label: This belongs to me, this is mine. It also mediates the presence; there's a metaphysical belief behind it.
