Synopsis
Bridget Eileen Rivera, author of Heavy Burdens: Seven Ways the LGBT Community Experiences Harm From the Church sits down with Tim to discuss how culture and the Religious Right's agenda influenced how Evangelicals were taught to view queerness. Bridget, gives some background about how she came to write her latest book. She gives the history of the Religious RIght's influence on the church starting with the AIDS crisis and the Gay Civil Rights era. Tim and Bridget then discuss how the terms homosexual and heterosexual came into our modern vocabulary from Freud's work on human sexuality. They discuss how that led to the translators of the Bible changing how certain Greek words were translated from the NT clobber passages from their original English translations to homosexual in 1946. Bridget, explains how culture for many of the early church fathers viewed all non-procreative sex as sodomy.
