Zena's stories are also a reminder that stereotypes are much more difficult to deal with when there is a power imbalance. In Zena's case, she got an opportunity to work in Germany under a professor but found he had certain assumptions about her. "I felt that I was kind of his thing, but he treated me with the utmost quaint and sometimes ridiculous respect," says Zena.
