The History of Fireworks in India
In India, as in China, fireworks play a frequent part in religious and civil ceremonies. The diversity of color, with which the Chinese have the secret of clothing their fire, seems one of the chief merits of their pyrotechny. At weddings, crackers are largely used under a variety of names,. such as venga-gvedi, gola, pataka or kuru. In 1902 HM Chief Inspector of Explosives for India, endeavored to secure its prohibition.
