The Etymology of Surplus
There is a production or a deficit that results from a discourse. Lacan wants to say these all are in the field of surplus. These gains and losses are typically for someone's enjoyment. The question here at this point, if only to be posed now and answered later, is who's enjoyment? Who gets to capture the surplus enjoyment that comes with a gain at thelevel of profit? And who gets to capture surplus enjoyment at the level of loss, namely in the fieldof deficit?
