CBT is based on the idea of marked mirroring and contingency. The mother's face is the mirror where an infant first finds himself or herself, says Dr Andrew Wexler. A lot of work that we do as therapists can also be seen in this contingency and marking way. And from a neuroscience point of view, I can think about this as upcoming sensations,. which come feelings, which are then thought about and regulated by psychotherapy.
